Amenities Description

Ideally situated in regions known for their natural diversity (i.e. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug (a hilly region), and the Veluwe), our Bed & Breakfast is the perfect starting point for discovering the surroundings, either by bike or on foot. De Veluwe (The Veluwe): On the Veluwe you can endlessly enjoy the peace and quiet, space and wonderful nature of this beautiful, and amazingly diverse park, which also has much to offer in a culinary and wellness sense: a crackling fireplace, delicious food, a glass of wine, a visit to a wellness resort, a dip in a luxurious herbal bath …. Shake off the effects of the daily drag, and discover the boundless opportunities The Veluwe has to offer! Utrechts Landschap (Utrecht Landscape): extensive woods, purple fields of heather, vast polders with windmills, flood plains abounding in birds, ancient castles and stately country estates. Discover the many nature reserves Utrecht is rich in, beautiful in every season of the year. Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe (National Park The High Veluwe): this national nature reserve in central Holland covers 5,500 hectares (approx. 13,500 acres) of woodland, heathland, grassy plains and sand drifts. It is the natural habitat of deer, mouflon and wild boar. At the Visitors’ Centre there is a museum called ‘The Museonder’, which is a subterranean museum informing visitors about subterranean life, contemporary, or in the past. The museum is located in the very heart of ‘Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe’. De Ginkelse heide (Ginkel Heath): is the area to visit in the municipality of Ede for spotting and watching big game, such as red deer, wild boar or roe deer. For this you must go to the heath fields. The animals will not always be that easy to find, but you are allowed to watch them at your leisure (and with patience!) in a large part of this area. If you decide to try and discover this area by bike, just follow the designated cycle paths and enjoy the view on all sides. There are various specially marked hiking-, biking- and mountain biking routes for you to choose from. In addition to this, you can also go on a ‘safari’, led by a specially trained guide or warden. This area is known as a singular nature reserve, and it is here that you will also be able to find old, erratically twisted pine trees in their natural habitat, because people have refrained from intervening in nature here for quite some time now. The area is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surrounding landscape. Landgoed Kernhem (Kernhem country estate): is one of the oldest estates in the Netherlands. On this estate you can go for wonderful walks or cycle among the towering oak trees. Plan your own route, but exploring the estate on a guided tour is also an option to consider. Het Kröller-Müller Museum (The Kröller-Müller Museum): this art museum is situated at the heart of ‘Het Nationale Park De Hoge Veluwe’, and possesses a world-renowned visual arts collection from the 19th and 20th century. Admire the extensive collection of Vincent van Gogh’s paintings and drawings (the world’s second largest collection) and wonder through the sculpture garden. In the garden you will find over 160 sculptures by iconic artists such as Auguste Rodin, Henry Moore, Jean Dubuffet, as well as by Joep van Lieshout. Het Historisch Museum Ede (The History Museum of Ede): Although little information is available in English, this small museum offers an insight into local history through archeological finds, historical artifacts (costumes, tools, textile, and documents), as well as paintings, drawings, pictures, and audiovisual material and film footage. Oude Ambachten & Speelgoed Museum (Museum of Ancient Crafts and Toys): are you looking for a truly unique experience? If so, plan a visit to this museum in the village of Terschuur, near Barneveld, and take a unique look into the world of yesteryear… Experience it yourself, and travel back to the time when there was no electricity, most of the work was done by hand, and when people were still dependent on relatives, friends and neighbours. There are 160 different old crafts, occupations and shops. One thing is for sure: during your visit you won’t know where to look first! Apart from the ancient crafts on display, there is also an impressive collection of old and antique toys for all ages to admire, as well as a fun play area for kids with various attractions. Ouwehands Dierenpark Rhenen (Ouwehands Zoo in Rhenen): yearly this zoo in the town of Rhenen is visited by over 960,000 people. It offers its visitors a unique multi-sensory experience which is sure to surpass all your expectations. The zoo was established in 1932 and ranks in the top 5 of all the Dutch zoos. A unique collection of animals in combination with lots of game –and playing options for children, ensure a unique experience for all ages. Het Openluchtmuseum Arnhem (The Open Air Museum in Arnhem): The Netherlands Open Air Museum is full of stories. They are hidden in the historic and authentic houses, mills and farmhouses to be found in the museum park, as well as in the work, lives, customs and traditions on exhibit in this open air museum. The manifold stories are brought to life during a visit to the museum. Here you can immerse yourself in the past and get to know the history of the Dutch – and perhaps even (some of) your own, into the bargain. The museum will take you on a journey through time, from two centuries ago until very recent times. You will not know where to look first. The people working in the museum seem to have been transported from the past into our day and age, and being very proud of their heritage, they will undoubtedly inspire you with their wealth of stories. Nationaal Monument Kamp Amersfoort (National Monument Camp Amersfoort): was a Nazi concentration camp in Amersfoort in the Netherlands. The official name was "Polizeiliches Durchgangslager Amersfoort", P.D.A. or Police Transitcamp Amersfoort. From 1941 until the liberation of the Netherlands in 1945, close to 40,000 prisoners were kept here for longer or shorter periods of time. The camp was situated in the southern part of Amersfoort, on the city limits between Amersfoort and Leusden, near the city of Utrecht. Hundreds of prisoners were murdered here, or died due to deprivation and hardship. The camp is a monument meant to keep the stories of the terrible events that took place between its walls, alive for future generations. Sauna de Heuvelrug: this sauna and wellness centre is situated in the town of Veenendaal in the province of Utrecht, and promises to offer you more than a mere day at the sauna. Apart from the extensive range of sauna and thermal bath facilities available here, you will find just the right combination of homeliness and coziness to ensure total relaxation. Sauna is not only about sweating in a cubicle, Sauna de Heuvelrug offers you more: a wonderful day of bathing, eating, drinking and relaxing, of various treatments and massages in a convivial atmosphere, and maybe even of some entertainment while you experience the relaxing sprinkling rituals! Eating, drinking and entertainment options: Culinary enjoyments … Of course you can find all these on The Veluwe, too. Begin a spring day with a hearty breakfast before going on a long bike ride, or sit down and relax on a terrace in the sun on a summer’s day. Enjoy a delicious game dish after a relaxing walk in autumn, or have a good glass of wine at the fireplace on a cold winter’s day. Taste The Veluwe! Need more information? Please ask us. We will gladly be of assistance.
