We had a lovely stay here for 3 nights! Piero and his staff were wonderful, and Balestrate was charming.
We were greeted upon arrival with a large bowl of fresh fruit, bottles of aperitif, white wine, and olive oil, and pasta for preparing in the apartment's kitchen.
One morning, Piero knocked on the door with fresh, hot pastries for us.
Balestrate was very walkable, and it was also close enough to drive to other nearby attractions.
We loved walking to the coffee shop down Via Roma street, with its ricotta cheese pastries and excellent coffee.
The beach is close by, with crystal clear blue water, and chairs and an umbrella were provided for us.
In case you're not familiar with Mediterranean beaches, bring "water shoes" (not flip-flops) for walking along the rocky beach until you reach the sandier area.
Everything you need (grocery stores, shopping, good restaurants, etc.) is available in Balestrate.
Sicily is beautiful and the people are friendly! Piero and his staff speak excellent English.
One note -- we did not have hot water after the first morning, but we never remembered to ask Piero about it.
I'm sure it could have been resolved, but be sure to ask if it's important to you.
We highly recommend this apartment to anyone traveling in northern Sicily.
Close and convenient to the Palermo airport, too..

My two friends and I were blessed to find this lovely villa in Balestrate via on a recent jaunt to Sicily.
We hoped to find a comfortable spot we could use as a home-base to explore some of the highlights of Western Sicily.
It turned out the villa provided that and much more. The quaint village of Balestrate, the villa, and our host Piero completely exceeded our expectations of Sicilian hospitality.
Our accommodations at Casa del Golfo, which is mere steps from the breath-taking Golfo de Castellammare (a must-see at sunset), were extremely spacious.
It's high ceilings; large windows; and romantic balcony overlooking town all reminded us of its recent past as a family villa.
The kitchen is also remarkably well-equipped for cooking a full meal or a snack at home. As it turned out, Balestrate was a perfect home-base for our adventures through Western Sicily, which included day-trips to Erice, Segesta, Trapni, San Vito lo Capo, Monreale, and Palermo.
None of these sites were very far away, and we actually found the drives quite scenic; if you do hope to explore, I recommend a rental car. As for the crazy urban din of Palermo, it was fun to see but we were VERY glad to return to our sleepy and friendly "home" in Balestrate after a long day of exploring Palermo.
The village is big enough that it has everything you need, but not too big; it is easily explored on foot.
There's a nice grocery, and also a number of good local restaurants, mainly specializing in seafood as well as several charming cafes for your morning espresso and cornetto (I'll take mine stuffed with sweet ricotta, please). Although we didn't know Balestrate before our trip, I would recommend it as a home base for any travelers looking to explore Western Sicily.
It's convenient location south of the Palermo airport, off the main highway and along the coast makes it both tranquil and central to many sites.
And it's JUST far enough away from Palermo to be truly relaxing and sleepy. Piero bent over backwards to be a good host, offering great suggestions of local restaurants and sites to see.
He even greeted us with a home-cooked Sicilian meal and fresh fruit, and helped one in our group sort out a problem with a flight.
He truly is a terrific host. I would not hesitate to recommend Casa de Golfo to any guests looking for a gracious spot to stay while taking in the beauty of Sicily.
Piero and the villa helped make our trip truly special.
    "La sicilia è bella!" .
